I've interned with the Democratic Committee for 4 years
I'm president of the Young Democrats Club
I'm on the debate team
I'm in the key club (I help fund raise and get the club to volunteer for political events)
And I've attended JSA Summer Camp 3 years.

Would this be an above average EC or is it just another common piece of crap?

not really "crap", but it is quite common... but if it's what you love, what's wrong with it?

why is there a need prune your application? don't you want to do something ENJOYABLE during your 4 years of highschool? after all, that's what life is about......

There must be SOMETHING. I've been in contact with a certain campaign (Avoiding a political debate here) who I may be able to help out very much in my region.

What is something I could do in politics that will really make me stand out from the crowd?

Develop a philosophy of heart and mind as captured by the old adage -- "If you're not a liberal when you're young there's something wrong with your heart; if you're not a conservative when you're old there's something wrong with head".

Heart: Get involved in grass roots efforts that implement policies directed to the those in need. The best aid will point the way to self-sufficiency.

Mind: Learn about and support capitalism, the system (imperfect though it may be, but better than all the alternatives) that makes possible the resources for the aid the heart wants to share.

do something that is not so self serving...if you look at all you did, it was pretty much all about you

my D is very much into politics as well, but did volunteer work, etc., to show that she took her principles to the next level

she worked with local politicians on clean up the beach campaigns, she worked with at risk youth, she did collection drives for prom dresses for girls in need

I hate to keep bumping my own thread, but this is important to me.

I LOVE politics and I feel like I'm doing as much as I can, yet only getting my feet wet. Although I absolutely love helping out at primaries and caucuses, attending council meetings, etc. I want more out of it. What else can I do?

It's not "crap" but it's not enough to be a significant hook. I would engage in more selfless political advocacy (as suggested). Also, perhaps start your own organization as opposed to just joining already established ones.

It also depends on program/school. To be absurd, it would not do as much for you if you want to be an EE degree from and Engineering School as opposed to one with a strong program in Government.

I want to do the International Relations program at Hopkins. What would make it a hook? Citysgirlmom, you've been great help. I support a variety of causes; 2 of which you mentioned. I also strongly oppose the war in Iraq and strongly support Health care reform (if that means Universal Health care, so be it).

what more do you want to hear? yes what you are doing is great, but move outside the political bubble and work/volunteer in the real world...there, done
