One of my essays is about my determination to become a pharmacist. I’m applying under the biology major for every UC, except for Berkeley. I’m applying for the computer science major for Berkeley, since computer engineering is my second plan in case pharmacy doesn’t work out. How would Berkeley interpret this after reading that essay? Would it affect my chances to get accepted there?
If you’re applying as a different major, you should probably write a different essay. Your application won’t really make sense if you’re talking about dreams of being a pharmacist but you’re applying under CS
@masonn8 The problem is that all of the UCs accept one application, which has 4 short essays. One cannot submit different essays to each school.
I think you should just mention that compute science is your second choice. However, why not put biology for Berkeley if computer science is your second choice?
@shanabanana1 I thought about how hard it is to switch majors if I were to get accepted and attend. I also think that I wouldn’t go to Berkeley under a bio major and I know the CS major there is prestigious. But hmm… I’ll probably consider applying under bio then to make everything easier. Thanks for the input!
@zxtjessica From what I know, it isn’t very hard to switch majors at Berkeley. My sister said that she intended to major in biology on her application but switched to Legal Studies after a month when she found that she preferred law over medicine.
If you want to apply under CS then apply under CS. First of all, everything in your application doesn’t have to line up perfectly. Second of all, I’m fairly certain you can major in whatever you want to get a PharmD. And third of all, and there are lots of ways that you could make CS relevant to pharmacy (like helping to design computer systems to aid pharmacists in filling prescriptions and consulting with patients). Check out bioinformatics.
