So I was thinking about writing an essay for the UC "your world and how it shaped you," but I wanted to take a different approach than usual.
I was gonna start off saying how living in the same place my whole life, being financially stable, and having a supportive family that didn't force me into anything was an ideal "blank slate" if you will to helping me shape my own life the way I wanted to.
Then I was gonna run through some random stuff I did that kinda show how my interests varied. Basically, I wanna show how I like to try new things and change up what I do. I want to show that it's okay to change your mind and not know right off the bat what you want to do for the rest of your life.
But I'm afraid colleges won't like that and they want me to say I'm gonna cure cancer or something. Which is so frustrating and ridiculous. And at the same time I feel like they don't care as much about what you write about as how you write it.
Sorry for the rant. Advice?

Your personal statement needs to relevant. It shouldn’t be an autobiography.

I think you should make it very clear that your passion is finding joy in many different things. I think that colleges like to have those financially stable students from solid families (at least I hope bc I am one too!) because those students are reliable, predictable, and over all good investments. Good luck!!!
