It matters on several specific aspects such as the schools most visited by recruiters, student body, etc.

The first set of data you need to analyze is a) can you afford to go there and b) will there provide you with sufficient resources to challenge and improve yourself?

No offense but you might get more thread responses if the name were less vague than “Does this even matter”? Maybe “Differences between Engineering Schools in Florida” would be a better title.

In my opinion UF > UM/UCF > USF/FAMU.

I don’t know too much about engineering schools in Florida but UF Engineering has a national reputation and I see UF mentioned on career websites of companies I have applied to that mention where they recruit from. The other schools are mentioned less commonly.

FSU has a decent national reputation (two of my cousins went there for graduate school) but its engineering program is not ranked well nationally and is shared with FAMU (so it may or may not be disjoint from the rest of the campus). This affiliation may also affect the overall student quality at FSU Eng. UCF, while having a weaker overall national reputation, has a stronger engineering reputation.

And engineering reputation matters more than overall reputation since if you are an engineering major, you take most of your classes in the engineering school (so even if your school has a bad liberal arts or film department, it doesn’t matter at all).

Cost can also be an important factor so if you get a full ride from UCF, it may be worth considering above all the rest of the programs.
