Also, is it probable that I could actually get all four of these classes? My enrollment time is 12:20 pm on the regular July 18. I have some backups as well.
Thanks!

Are all of these breadth classes? What is your major?
To me personally, I would advise to mix some of my major’s lower division classes along with the breadth classes. Probably gives a better balance for future semesters.
@sonyadesmond Did you complete your Golden Bear Advisement? It is sure great to have people here look at your schedule, but the official Golden Bear Adviser might be better. And I had the same question as the @ProfessorPlum168 : what’s your major, and where are the courses that you are talking towards it?
@ElenaParent my kid is L&S CS intent.
From another thread, he’s debating on whether to use his full AP Calculus BC credit, or go back one step and take Math 1B. He’s now leaning towards taking the full credit and going straight to EE16A - Designing Information Devices and Systems.
Also taking CS61A, probably Data 8 - Intro to Data Science and CLASSICS 10A - Intro to Greek Civilization. What was a pretty easy schedule sure got a lot harder.
The adviser that my kid got is hell bent on telling all freshmen to only take 13 to 15 units.
@ProfessorPlum168 Not sure I’d agree with 13-15 units, all people are different, one cannot advise everyone in the same way. ON the other hand, as long as a kid is taking 4 courses and every course satisfies some 7-breadth or other not satisfied yet requirement - it is probably ok.
I agree, 3 classes and a decal seems a bit too lax.
My DS is intending on becoming a Haas Major and is debating whether he should use his AP Calculus BC Credit. He received a 5 but despite the score we are leaning on taking Math 16A as a GPA booster. Theoretically, Haas doesn’t care which math course you take but does care significanlty about the grade.
Is this the right approach? Should we be more concerned about course rigor and take Math 1A/1B instead of 16A/16B?
Re: #6
For a student who has a 5 on AP calculus BC, the business major requires taking one of 16B, 1B, 53, or 54, according to https://haas.berkeley.edu/Undergrad/aplist.html . Retaking 16A after a 5 on BC could be seen as grade-grubbing (and some students who retake AP credit slack too much and do not earn the “easy A” that they want). Depending on his backup major(s), it would be better to avoid wasting schedule space on 16A in order to use it to prepare for his backup major(s) as well as business.
He can try the old final exams for 16A, 1A, and 1B to check his knowledge before taking 16B, 1B, 53, or 54. The old exams can be found at https://tbp.berkeley.edu/courses/math/ .
What his backup major(s) are also affects whether he should take 16B or 1B, or needs more advanced math like 53 and/or 54. For the economics major, a 5 on AP calculus BC fulfills its minimum math requirement (otherwise fulfilled by 16B or 1B), but students who want to take the more math option should take 53 and 54.
Ucbalumnus - Many thanks for the reco.
