i am in honors chem and we just learned about percent and theoretical yield and I love it! its the most fun ive had in chem so far and maybe even in science. its just so logical and more involved then a lot of the other crap we've done

i like chem too.
Chem's my favourite subject.
But that doesn't make me a nerd. THe subject that makes you a geek (in my school) is Physics. "man i love physics to death. My fav subject in the whole wide world!" <----- dorkus

i've plotted people in my class onto the periodic table.

(he's so cool and standoffish...make him a solitary nonebonding Neon. she's a preppy ___, make her a Fluorine who'll get it on with anybody. he's the life of the school, make him oxygen, etc)

TRADER YOU'RE SUCH A CHEM NERD!!!!! :p :D

lol just kidding....you're actually a great chemistry student who's going to do great things for this world :)
i sound so wise dont i
loll
:D

purrli, that's awesome. lol, i never thought about that, but that's pretty damn cool!

i actually prefer bio even more than chem but ive only had 3 teachers actually really influence me..my chem teacher (shes just so smart with her doctorate and her useful applications), my bio teacher (she was just way too good a teacher) and my alg 2 teacher (she made me not hate math).

for all of you in chem though...does your teacher allow you to have a periodic table for all the tests? ours does and it seems that makes it rather easy. she also lets us have this little sheet with the common charges of monatomic anions and cations as well as polyatomic ions. do you guys get to use these things on the test? im just worried if i get used to using them, im gonna be screwed in college chem if i cant use em.

im in AP chem, and we're allowed to use our periodic table on tests...not that it has much on it lol...just the atomic number and mass for each element.....

...and about being screwed in college chem from getting used to these things...i used to to think so too, but its acually not that bad...because you use those things so much that you remember most of the important stuff for ex. like i said were allowed per. tables on our tests but I hardly use mine because ive gotten so used to using it that I remember the important molar masses or whatever i need to know from using them so many times before

Hope I made some sense up there^ lol :)

yeah that does make sense. our table also tells electronegativity, electron configuration (which i know easily anyways), and oxidation numbers.

..yeah.... and plus i would assume that if we're not allowed to use periodic tables in college then they would at least provide us the info we need to do the question...they can't really expect us to memorize the per. table ....i hope....lol

Most people on this board are nerds. We can't differentiate nerds from poseurs because we're too busy reeling in our own nerdiness. Did you even realize the responses were to relate individual nerd incidents? :)

wow i love physics, its def the best high school class lol
physics is all about analytical thinking whereas chem and bio are about memorization

I think I'm going to name my firstborn something that can be spelled using elements... is that nerdy enough?

purrli that's such a neat idea!!

lol globber, my friend and i decided the future names of our children by modifying/twisting the names of different elements

I hate chemistry.

let me answer the question the title says: yes, you are a chem nerd.

hahah i love it too!

yes, yes it does.

lol. when we're nearly finished with the periodic table, we started plugging people in as subatomic things like beta particles (for short and hyper and angry) and couples as various molecules (ionic compounds for ill-matches, covalent for good fits). the possibilities are endless.

i love chem :D

Chem is quite useful for ideas for good (but potentially harmful) pranks, some of which have already been carried out on Senior Prank Week, the week before seniors are allowed to leave to complete a capstone project. (Not that I would carry any of them out when I reached that age, however).

I love chemistry. My friends and I were going to dress up as the periodic table for Halloween but we never got around to it. I like purrli's idea as well. :)

I'm in IB Chem HL, and we have a "data booklet" with the periodic table and other charts that we get to use for tests. Most of the questions are analytical, though, so it's not as if we can just copy the answers.
