If it's not important to you, I don't think it's worth putting. They're looking for what you're like, and so you should try to give them the best picture of that. However, playing a sport is a decent time commitment, so it might seem like 9-11th grades were kinda empty if you don't say it. It's really up to you, whether you think it was a significant enough portion of your life to be worth mentioning.

I vote yes if you are lacking in that area and need to show where and how you spent some of that time. My son played a sport for 2 years and had to quit but he will definately put it on his application.

i played varsity soccer and club soccer year round for 9-11th grade so those years were not empty.. so i thought putting volleyball would be pointless.. but im not sure if it would look good to put it.. =/

Well, I cheered 9-11th grade. I'm putting it, only because I don't have a lot of ECs and had a leadership position. I think putting it would still look good.

I think you should put volleyball on your app. Playing for three years involved an extended time commitment. My d put field hockey on her app and she played one year and was team manager the next. She was not anything special on the field (obviously), but she enjoyed the team camaraderie and in a perfect world would have been a better player. The sport was a time commitment and deserved acknowledgement as such.

Colleges won't automatically assume you are a quitter. Perhaps you didn't make the team senior year or an injury prevented you from continuing. Perhaps a job took precedence or perhaps you just determined that your talents and how you want to spend time senior year led you in a different direction. The point is you spent the time for three years so let it show.
