My friend, who applied to Harvard as well, got an email on March 12th from someone in the financial aid office asking for her to send in her parents' 2006 tax return, because she applied early and only sent in the 2005 one.

She's wondering if this means anything? I told her maybe it was a good sign because why would they ask for it if she wasn't accepted, esp since it was so late in the admission process. But now I'm worried that I might have given her false hope =

It doesn't mean a thing, the same thing happened to me with MIT, with even less time till decisions were released, and I was waitlisted. It doesn't mean you're in.

i've always wondered about this too - in my opinion, they wouldnt review financial aid info for people they aren't seriously considering
thats like, 20000 extra applications to consider.

i think it might mean good chance of waitlist or acceptance

If you were deferred EA and actually did your job by staying on top with updating your FAFSA - CSS Profile (and the IDOC information) then I'm sure you're fine. They're not going to contact you if you have all the information they need.

Being waitlisted from MIT is still commendable. Also, I've heard that at some universities the kids who get waitlisted are usually first accepted..and then when the realize they've accepted more than they have space for, that's when they bring out the waitlist. So, it's possible ..when they asked for your financial aid stuff..you were accepted..but then in the day or two before admissions were released..you were waitlisted.

Just a thought. I am not sure how all of this works.

I think it's a good sign I have been asking about that too... Cornell gave me one of those on the 13th... Good luck to your friend. Hope they get in.

hksangha: I think Metric was answering my observation, and he/she was right, because I sent in all my updates when I sent in my reports for my RD colleges. Thanks for bringing back the hope Metric ;-]

Haha, thanks for the acknowledgement. You know, it would really be bad luck if that is what happened to me. :( Oh well, it seems that I won't be getting into Penn M&T either, whatever...life goes on

This is false... I got that from Cornell dated like March 12th and I thought I was a sure in, I got REJECTED. So, that must've just been done for anyone. So any one for future years or juniors reading this w/e the scenario, plz don't let this come off as a "UR IN"!!!
