Does This Mean I'm In?

Today I got an email from Cornell about some multicultural diversity day. I was just about to trash it, but I stopped to read the full thing. I haven't received anything from the school such as an acceptance or a likely letter, so I'm a little confused. Am I in or are they just trying to get me to go to this diversity nonsense? This is what the email said:

Visiting Cornell during Diversity Hosting will give you the opportunity to experience life as a Cornell student. We will provide limited transportation, housing, meals, and a rich array of opportunities to attend classes, meet with faculty, and converse with current Cornell students about their experiences.

This special invitation is extended to you because of your strong academic and personal record and because you will be admitted to Cornell University’s Class of 2017. If you are interested in joining us or would like more information about Diversity Hosting, visit: diversityhosting.admissions.cornell.edu.

You’re in!

Yes, indeed you are.

“you will be admitted…”

In. Congratulations!

It’s in the email, isn’t it?

I got it, too. ^_^

Gee, I guess I was kind of in disbelief since I didn’t really think I was much of a contender. Holy crap!

yeah i got one too. after being rejected from MIT yesterday, this feels reeeeallly good. Congrats!

Same to you! Maybe I’ll see you there! :)

I got the same letter! I’m so overwhelmed. My heart is still going in overdrive. Never thought I’d even have a chance. Thank you god!

Welcome to the crew!

I GOT IT TOO!!! I GOT INTO CORNELL!!! AAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!! Hope to see you guys at the Diversity Program!!!

“because you will be admitted to Cornell University’s Class of 2017.”…how could it be any more obvious…

Hey Everyone!

So i got the same email today and I haven’t really celebrated it because acceptance letters were suppose to be sent March 28 after 5pm. This all is really weird and doesn’t make sense.

I need some type of confirmation before I can celebrate and tell the world. omg omg omg I am calling first thing early in the morning on Monday !!!

My email is slightly different and includes more information. Am i in?

Dear _______,

Cornell University and the College of Engineering
invite you to participate in our
Admitted Student Events
held during April 2013.

Spring Engineering Diversity Hosting Weekend: The College of Engineering presents a hosting program for multicultural students admitted to the College of Engineering. Spring Engineering Diversity Hosting Weekend (EDHW) will be held from April 11th-13th. EDHW is a two-night hosting event focusing on the Engineering student experience. Funding, including travel expenses, is contingent upon financial need. Participants will stay two nights in a residence hall with a current student, explore campus, visit classes, participate in an interactive lab demonstration, and meet with faculty, staff, and engineering students. EDHW is a stand-alone program and should not be combined with other admitted student programs. More information on EDHW, including how to register, can be found at: [Cornell Engineering: Spring Engineering Diversity Hosting Weekend](http://www.engineering.cornell.edu/SpringEDHW). EDHW is a space-limited program that will fill up quickly – it is critical that students register as soon as possible, but no later than Friday, March 29th.

Diversity Hosting Month: Cornell University provides an opportunity for admitted multicultural students to visit campus on select dates between April 7th and April 25th. A Diversity Hosting Month visit is a one-night hosting event focusing on the general Cornell student experience and fully funded by Cornell University. Once on campus, participants will be able to visit classes, attend information sessions, meet with students, and stay overnight in a residence hall with a current student. Diversity Hosting Month participants are welcome to participate in Cornell Days events during their stay. More information on Diversity Hosting Month, including how to register, can be found at:

Cornell Days: Cornell University’s annual program for admitted students takes place on select dates between April 11th and April 22nd. Generally, a Cornell Days visit is a one-day event focusing on the Cornell student experience, although some hosting opportunities are offered on a first-come, first-served basis through the Cornell Red Carpet Society. Cornell Days allows students to become oriented with the university, as well as attend select College of Engineering events such as an information session and an Engineering Quad Tour. More information on Cornell Days, including how to register, will be sent to you with your decision letter.

Regardless of which program students attend, it is our pleasure to offer these opportunities for you to visit us in April. We look forward to welcoming you to our campus in the hope that you will decide to join the Cornell community!

If you have any questions give us a call at: 607.255.5008 or email at: engr_admissions@cornell.edu.

We look forward to seeing you on Cornell’s campus in April!

Sincerely,

Scott M. Campbell Sara Xayarath Hern

^Mine had the last two but not the Engineering thing (though I applied to both it and CAS). I guess that means I got into the CAS o.O

@IAMABOSS It’s an acceptance letter that says “you will be admitted.” The whole point is to give you a little more time for plane tickets in case you want to visit in early April.

when they say “multicultural”… do they mean specially Hispanic or Black students? Or Native Americans and Asians too?

Well, to answer part of your question, I’m a Native American who got it. I think it’d be insanely impractical for Cornell to fly all its Asian prospective students to campus, but it’s entirely possible the school does so.

oh, thank you for clarifying

i didn’t get any of this and I am a black male student with a major in bio and society… does that mean I didn’t get in

I GOT THE DIVERSITY HOSTING e-mail, TOO!
“This special invitation is extended to you because of your strong academic and personal record and because you will be admitted to Cornell University’s Class of 2017…”

IN UTTER DISBELIEF. (It IS real, right?!!!) Thank you, God.
