Does this mean I'm likely accepted ED?

I applied ED and today, Columbia contacted my counselor for my current grades. Why would they be asking for this from me and not other applicants? Did anyone else's counselor get this request?

Not really…in fact (this is my assumption here, not a solid fact)…

They may be at the pinnacle of making your decision, and they are contacting your counselor to see if your current grades could push them in a certain direction.

Think of a your application on the tip of a mountain. Your grades, are like the wind, that could blow it to the right, accepted, or left, rejected.

At least, that’s how I see it.

EDIT: If they did ask my GC I wouldn’t know. My school is too large to have contact with GCs on everything. I might ask her tomorrow.

Yep. It could be good news. Or bad news. It shows that they are working not hangin at 116th and broadway at the pinnacle.

Thanks for the replies!

I just hope they don’t ask my GC for my current schools. It’s noy as great as I want it to be.

coyote, when does this semester end for you?

^^^Excuse me if I am mistaken, but semesters end in the end of Jan. for all High Schoolers (?)

My high school doesn’t do semesters, they have quarters. Ugh.

silence, my school ends in mid-dec.
perhaps schools which semesters that end early decembers are contacted for applicants’ grades, yknow???

idk, bleh

Our semester ends in January. The grades they’re asking for aren’t even official, just as of now.

Any opinions on if this is good/bad/neutral?

it’s not bad. youre obviously still in the running.
gluck

^^^^ well said. they wouldn’t ask for your grades if they were going to reject you.

lucky lucky! i wish they’d call my counselor, ask to personally speak with me, congratulate me on being admitted, and invite me to a huge party with every other EDer because, of course, we all would get in

whoa there, i can definitely see columbia and other colleges contacting to ask about grades, but them randomly calling one day and asking for grades AS OF THAT DAY, not even at the end of quarters or grading cycles or anything, isn’t that a bit unfair??

for example, a lot of times students (like myself) are stressed out, and do mess up on quite a bit of tests, getting myself low b’s for a couple of weeks. but luckily i’m able to try harder and hang in there and get them all up to a’s by the time the grades are due for a grading cycle.

so shouldn’t columbia realize that? i mean, if they see u have 5 b’s right now, only half way through the a grading cycle (f.x our school does 9 week grading cycles)…i mean, asking for grades at the end of a cycle or semester is definitely warranted but im still wondering about them saying stop right there and give us her grades exactly as they are right now…and im also kinda scared cuz my grades have been kinda low lately and im trying to bring it up by mid december when our cycle ends lol

i think, collegeftw, that they would ask for the finalized grades up to that point: first quarter, first cycle, first marking period, whatever. obviously, this means that they wouldn’t be able to ask for grades from a student who goes to a high school on some kind of semester system (about 20 week grading cycles?), although honestly i’ve never heard of a high school that runs on such a system. so in your case they would ask for your grades for the first 9 weeks.

asking for mid-quarter grades wouldn’t make any sense because, among other things, a lot of teachers, at least in my school, don’t even enter grades into the online system/calculate averages until the end of the marking period.

axel, I agree with you completely, its just that coyotebringsfire (the person that started this thread) said that columbia asked for grades quote “as of now.” lol. anybody else have comments and stuff on this? its kind of making me worry in case columbia asks for my current grades (exactly as of today) lol, cuz im attempting to maybe bring up my bad grades to all a’s in the next 2 weeks, when grade cycles end…sigh 4 tests + 1 quiz tmr haha. senior year for the win!

ALSO, like when I applied ED, I scanned my report card for the 1st grade cycle. Was that a bad choice? cuz i read somewhere a few weeks ago that colleges want counselors to send those grades, not yourself or something…

I think if Columbia requested your grades as of now, that’s a very good sign. If they weren’t interested in you at all they would not bother. Clearly they are considering you. good luck.

How did you know that they contacted your counselor? Did your counselor tell you? Should I go and ask my counselor if they requested my current grades?

Schools ask for grade at this stage means it is a borderline case… 70~80 % are admitted from borderline students. Good luck.
