Does this mean I'm likely accepted ED?

70-80%??? Where did you get that stat from?

Columbia requires ED applicants to submit first quarter grades. It is as simple as that. You should not read anything into the request for those grades.

yeah, my guidance counselor indicated that she, as a general rule for ED applicants, sends in first quarter grades as soon as they become available. so i dunno if you should necessarily take anything from this, other than that your school only sends in first quarter grades if the college asks for them. on the other hand, it seems unlikely that columbia would request your grades if you were not considered in the running. good luck!

It could also be a random spot check done on candidates to drive home the point that Yes. Senior grades *do *matter.

70~80% came from my guess from a Yale official. See the following:

Here is a paragraph from an article at Yale website:

[What Yale Looks For | Yale College Admissions](What Yale Looks For | Yale College Undergraduate Admissions)

“What Yale looks for”

“…Between two and three hundred students in any year are so strong academically that their admission is scarcely ever in doubt. But here is the thing to know: the great majority of students who are admitted stand out from the rest because a lot of little things, when added up, tip the scale in their favor. So what matters most in your application? Ultimately, everything matters…”

Basically ww just pulled that figure out of his ass.

^^ Asking a guidance counselor for a student’s senior year grades does not equate to said student being one of 300 academic superstars in the applicant pool. Not even sure how you could possibly deduce a “70-80%” from any part of that link.

nowhere in the admissions info for Columbia do they indicate that first quarter grades are a requirement. They ask for midyear grades.

^^^I agree. Only transript and mid year grades are required. Not quarters or marking periods.

I don’t think you have an xxx

@ ww

I honestly have no idea what that means. And I don’t mean to be rude – it’s just that you’ve been posting lots of incorrect and / or incoherent information here.

why would columbia bother to request your current grades if they were not seriously considering you as a candidate. I think they just want to make sure you have kept up your grades. But in my opinion, which is just that…an opinion…I think you have a very likely shot at acceptance.

they called for mine today too
a’s/b’s are fine right?
youre only in trouble if you have c’s… right?

They haven’t called for mine yet. Should i be worried?

wait… jelecrois… had you initially submitted your first quarter grades?

or just up until the end of junior year?

WHOA THE PEOPLE THAT GOT CALLED NEEDS TO CLARIFY FOR ALL OF US

1) did they ask grades up to a certain point (last grading cycle) or were they like randomly “hey counselor, stop right there and give us ____'s grades as it is RIGHT AT THIS MOMENT”???

2) i submitted my first quarter grades…but i just scanned it and i dont think my counselor sent it in…is that legit? i mean…

3) what else did they ask for??

please dont ignore these questions … im sure it would help all of us on this forum, since alot of us seem to be confused

It’s from the last complete grading cycle. Teachers can’t submit unfinished grades.

^ I don’t mean to worry you. But that doesn’t sound like something you can do. Columbia demands SAT / ACT / SATII score reports from the testing agencies themselves – likewise, I’d expect them to demand transcripts from your high-school.

@ jelecrois

That Columbia is bothering to view your grades suggests they have an interest in you. And that’s obviously awesome. But I doubt their review is a kind of “oh, let’s just check to make sure he’s roughly keeping up his grades” thing. They’re clearly curious to see your performance in the context of a likely difficult senior course-load.

So: are As and Bs “fine?” It depends: both on your prior grades, and on the difficulty of your schedule.

thanks for the response photographer,

yeah i agree with you it should be complete grading cycle. but columbia DOES request transcript for my school, but the transcript doesnt have first grading cycle (we go by 9 weeks) grades…my counselor sent in her rec before our grades came out so i dont think she gave them my 1st 9 weeks grades. but i scanned my report card after i got it and attached it…would that be fine you think??? god im so worried…cuz i have this 80 yr old teacher (literally, for the past 5 years, each yr a group of students have tried to get her fired…but shes tenured) who gave everyone b’s and c’s this past few weeks

not trying to complain, but basically do you think columbia will consider my 1st 9 weeks grades that i scanned myself (what’s wrong with that :frowning: ?) and turned it in…? cuz i hope they don’t all my counselor to ask about my grades AS OF NOW cuz it sucks. im gonna bring it up by the time semester ends tho. ugh the stress…

i never sent a first quarter report. the officer called my counselor and asked for my grades. i have 3 a’s and 3 b’s as of now, but they should be straight a’s by the end of the semester. oh gosh, do you think that columbia thinks im a slacker? im usually a straight a type of chica, but this isnt the end of the semester!!
i pinky promise im not a slacker, columbia!! ):
