My counselor told me that he got a postcard from Duke last week saying how this year they have the third highest number applicants in their history this year, etc. etc. Why would Duke send this if I weren't rejected? OMG this is horrible....Does anyone know if this is why my counselor got this postcard? :( :( :( :(

Don't worry about it too much, at the very least, you'll know your actual decision in about two days. Just hang tight for 48 more hours. You can make it.

Take deep breaths, etc.

I'm not neccesarily freaking out, but my logic tells me that they would only send that postcard only if I got rejected or waitlisted. Why would they want to let my counselor know how difficult it is to get in and such? I believe it is to soften the blow of the rejection. What do you guys think?

I don't understand your logic at all. How would that mean you are rejected?? It's making Duke look better--and making it a bigger accomplishment if you got in, which you very well might have.

Don't freak out! There's no use in over analyzing the postcard. You just have to hang in there and wait for your letter. A thousand people can say its this and that but hey, what do we know? We aren't the Duke college admins.

Good Luck! Hope you get in! :)

Did anyone else's counselor get this???

Mine don't tell me about the correspondence they get.

Are you sure that postcard was sent to your counselor specifically in reference to you? It was probably just a postcard that Duke sent out to a lot of high schools, just to keep everyone informed with the latest news. You probably weren't the only Duke applicant, so the postcard was probably just a general one. I don't think Duke has the time to send out individual rejection hints to high school counselors.

You'll find out whether you're accepted/rejected in 2 days, so try not to go mental over this!! I think all of us are trying too hard to find subtle hints from colleges. I applied to Duke as well, so I understand how stressed u are right now!! Good luck for Wednesday!

Thanks, but only two people applied to Duke from my school: my brother and I. We're probably the first ever from our school to apply to Duke. Does this at least one, if not both, of us are waitlisted or rejected? I can't see the logic in it other than that one of us or both has been waitlisted/rejected. I can't think of it as anything other than negative.

Since only you and your brother applied, most likely the post card was sent to attract more applicants from your school. By up playing the selectivity at Duke and perhaps accepting you, more kids at your school will apply. That's a positive way of looking at it.

But anyways, don't worry too much about it. You'll find out if this theory holds up or not in 2 days.

Perhaps....

but wouldn't their saying how selective the school is be discouragement for future applicants?

Has anyone else's counselor gotten the same note?

Really, I doubt it has any significance whatsoever. Duke could just be bragging that they're popular.

eeeek I hope so

This postcard is, without question, completely irrelevant to your admissions status. Period.

If so, why hasn't anyone else recieved the postcard? Wouldn't it be wierd if they just sent it to GC's of random applicants? Maybe my GC didn't tell me the whole story and it actually is a rejection notification that he got...Does anyone know if Duke alerts the school before the student of their admission status?

I bet they sent it to all the high schools that have applicants to Duke. Don't worry about it.

It would be cool if Duke applicants could ask their GC's if they also got the postcard of death from Duke...that'd be helpful methinks

lol just wait until Wednesday an d you will know! Good luck to all!

ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh i am so nervous
