So most of my friends who recently got into Towson got an acceptance letter without the school asking for their senior grades. They sent me a letter saying they have reviewed my application already but won’t review it again until my most recent grades get sent to them. My grades were below average but my gpa was above average. I’m assuming that they’re unsure about me.
Does anyone know if this most likely means I won’t be accepted, or what it means in general?
you’re not waitlisted. Your app is simply still being reviewed. They’re hoping to admit you when your next set of grades come in (hopefully which show solid or improving grades). Remember, they WANT to admit you (and your tuition, of course).
To be put on an actual “wait list” happens after all the decisions have been announced and offers made. Those put on a wait list are used to fill slots that aren’t taken by the 1st rounds of admitted students. Those put on a wait list may or may not eventually ever be offered a slot.
So do you think it’s more like them moving towards a yes?
Your grades will determine if you’re moving towards a Yes or No. They want to admit you – sure. But not if you don’t meet their criteria.
Your app is still being processed b/c you’re still an unknown quantity. They hope your grades pass muster --but this is no indication. You’re clearly still on the fence between YES and NO. It depends on your grades. Good luck.

? What does that mean? If you have below average grades, wouldn’t that result in a below average GPA?
If your most recent grades are at least as good as your previous grades or, hopefully, better, you will probably be accepted. I bet you started off poorly or had a dip in your grades or you have a clear downward trend that they want to see turned around. So they are unsure about whether you can succeed. If your upcoming grades are worse than your previous grades, they probably won’t accept you.
Ah, I meant above average SAT. Sorry my mistake
The only thing you can do is keep your grades up and send whatever they ask for.
Go speak with your counselor about this. Since your HS sends a lot of students to Towson every year, your counselor will be able to tell you if you are likely to be admitted.
If your grades are borderline for Towson, and you aren’t admitted straight off, you might be offered admission to the Community College of Baltimore County program on the Towson U campus. Students in that program live in the Towson dorms, have their CCBC classes in the Towson U buildings, participate in campus life at TU, and can transfer directly into TU after a semester or a year. It looks like you can’t ask for admission to that program, but your counselor could check for details. http://www.towson.edu/main/admissions/admitted/transition/index.asp
Did you get accepted? I’m in the same boat as you. I’ve been waiting for a little over a month without a decision.
No, I emailed my admissions counselor about my grades and he said that they would make a decision once I send in 2nd quarter grades. Those will be coming out in a week so the decision should be coming soon. So nervous haha
