Hi everyone,

I was rejected early decision, but I just received an e-mail that is probably nothing, but I did not want to dismiss it before investigating fully. While it is not directly about admissions, it means that I was not removed from a distribution list. Could it mean that there was a mistake in my portal or that they are reconsidering?

Here it is:

I wouldn’t get your hopes up, since you received a rejection and not a deferral. It’s incredibly unlikely they would change your decision, and the likelihood of a wrong decision being sent is quite low. It was probably sent to a very large distribution list that didn’t take current admission status into account.

I applied and also got this email. I think everyone on their mailing list probably got it though.

I’m afraid it does not (denied is denied).

It harkens me back to when my daughter got rejected by Exeter, albeit not a college, but circumstances were similar. The letter was insulting and went on to say she was part of an elite group who were prescreened; no additional transcript needed as they had reviewed it already; she was well qualified. Oh, qualified to pay for your summer program, but not qualified for regular admission? Did they take us for fools. Fool me once shame on me…fool me twice…well you know. This is an example of an unabashed, shameless, self-serving, insulting, you got a nerve, bad taste move.

It is unfortunately simply the result of poor database management. Please don’t take it personally.

If Duke administrative personnel are monitoring this, it might be a good idea to filter applicants out of the summer school mailing list to avoid inadvertent offence. It is easy to do, and avoids creating unnecessary anxiety or offence.

uh huh
nicely worded am6, and for all other colleges, prep schools also, take heed

I got this as well. And I applied RD. It means nothing. The program is for High Schoolers. Now if it was something specifically for DUKE STUDENTS, then its a different story. But the email clearly says High School students. I just think they forgot to take you (and me) off that mailing list.

Unfortunately, this just looks like your standard blast email where Duke is trying to get more applicants for programs that are open to everyone, regardless of whether they were accepted or not. Keep your head up though!
