Does this qualify me for acceptance into Columbia University?

I intend on being granted admission into Columbia University. Fortunately I do not believe in being a product of your circumstances and, my circumstances growing up were less than pleasant, uplifting, motivating, or encouraging. Education was looked over in my family. After suffering intense emotional, and physical abuse, being homeless, sleeping in parks, and being sucked into a vortex of a pitiful community I decided to relocate myself to where the sharks live. Where the best of the best compete for the top positions in the world.

Hello all let me give you a brief background on myself. I am a 26 year old female with an 8th grade education max, with a brief few community college courses under my belt. I have been and currently study Mandarin Chinese, I am a member of New York Cares, and I volunteer at a number of organizations.

Facing the reality of my situation is not a problem for me. I have yet to take an SAT, ACT, or and SAT II. Currently, however, I am rigorously studying for these exams by tutors of Columbia University.

I have collected letters of recommendation from several influential people around me and am friends with the Columbia, and Cornell alumni.

What it is I need from you all are suggestions. Does Columbia prefer ACT or SAT scores? Positive feedback, constructive feedback, and recommendations on what I should be doing from now until January 2012 to apply to Columbia University and be accepted.

Kindest Regards,
Bridgette

I admire your drive and commitment. Without any test data, it is just not possible to say if you could get admitted to Columbia.

But more importantly, I am sure that someone with your drive will find a path to higher education success. It may not be through Columbia–no one should have their heart set on one and only one school–but there is a path out there for you.

You should see if Columbia has a degree program for non-traditional students. Lots of top colleges have them. Then inquire about your matching that rather than being with 18-19 year old recent HS graduates.

Are you looking into school of general studies?

Columbia does not care which test you take. Both the ACT and SAT will be accepted. And I agree with looking for a non-traditional student program.
