Does Tisch look at your academic record?

So...that's the question. I'm interested in applying to the Film and Television program, and I know it's really selective (like every program in Tisch). But, does Tisch make acceptances based on your academic record. Do they look at your grades?

Or...does NYU decide to accept you...and then it's left to Tisch to size up your portfolio and accept you too?

I just don't really know how that works...

From the Tisch website:

"Admission to the Tisch School of the Arts is highly selective. We carefully evaluate each applicant based on a number of factors: academic record, standardized test scores, creative materials, recommendations, extracurricular involvement and an essay. In addition, an artistic review is required for admission to all Tisch programs. Each department has its own specifications for review. Please visit the Audition/Portfolio page for your department’s requirements.

Competitive applicants to the Tisch School of the Arts have done well academically, in addition to demonstrating potential in his/her chosen field. Also, participation in meaningful school and community activities is an important factor, and given the University’s unique offerings and its urban environment, we look for evidence of character and maturity in potential students. Every applicant will be taken into account individually and given fullest consideration."

The admissions people who review your grades/SAT scores work with the Tisch people to decide. You do not have to “pass” either evaluation first.

Yes, Tisch does look at your academic record, GPA, SAT scores, EC’s, etc. because it is a highly selective school.

before I auditioned my mom met Chris Anderson (the manager of admissions at Tisch) and he told her that Tisch admissions are a 50/50 thing–>your audition is just as important as your scores. However I also learned, that if NYU think you are really talented you may be able to scoot by with less that absolutely amazing grades. But academics definitely play a big part in the admission decision.
