does track recruit help?...chance me

Hey guys so I am applying MIT RD, and two days ago I got this email from an MIT coach that basically said I am a prospective student athlete, and could merit and extra recommendation letter. At first I was really happy, but then I was confused, I am not the fastest guy on the school track/field & XC team, yet I got this letter, saying my "personal records" would make a good addition to the team. I filled out this page on the MIT athletics website, but I really didn't think I'd get any response. Is this legit? or do they send this to everybody who fills out the form, and if it is legit how much, if at all will it help me? While you're at it could you chance me too :D I'll chance back

From my knowledge coaches at MIT submit a list of potential student athletes that they are willing to support to the admissions board. This is not done to every student who fills out those surveys, so the coach seems to have a genuine interest in you.

Being a recruited athlete most definitely helps with admissions (It helped me get into MIT). It provides a small “hook” of sorts for your application. I would say your resume is fairly solid, but that is no guarantee of admissions by any means. Being a recruited athlete, and assuming you wrote good essays and had a nice interview I would say your odds are relatively high.

really?
thats awesome! I guess I’ll just wait…still somewhat shocked though, I mean I’m not AMAZING
at track

About a third of art/music/athletic recruits were admitted last year, so while recruitment doesn’t provide a “sure thing” at MIT, it is a helpful boost.
