Does transferring during undergrad look bad?

Transferred to my hometown's university (don't know its rankings, but not in top 10) my sophomore year from UC Berkeley. Reasons were personal and had nothing to do with the original school.

Generally, does transferring look bad?

I had a 4.0 during my freshman year at UCB. I think this'll imply that I didn't transfer because I couldn't handle the program at UCB, but I don't think anyone actually cares about freshman year's grades. Given this, does transferring in my situation raise concerns? What do you guys think adcoms think when they see an applicant transfer during their undergrad?

It doesn’t look bad and nobody will care.

I transferred twice as an undergrad - from community college to UAF, then from UAF to UI. Had no problem getting in anywhere.

When gradcoms see an applicant who has transferred, they see… themselves? Lots of students transfer for a huge variety of reasons and a good number of them end up as professors.

Gradcoms, in general, don’t care about “appearances” - they care about achievements.
