Does Tufts have good financial aid?

Usually I look at the stats from college board but they're not listed for Tufts, so does anyone know the average financial aid package and percent of students with full need met, etc?

You can run their financial aid calculator and find out whether you think it works for your family. They meet 100% of what they think your need is, though of course you may still think that’s too much. I don’t know what percent of the package is likely to be loans.

100% of need is met, though need is a subjective term that is determined by the college. I will say that Tufts has been trying really hard to step up the financial aid lately, and personally I was amazed at the package they gave me. Tufts was actually the same and/or cheaper with financial aid than my state school would have been with financial aid (once you account for loans and stuff), if that’s anything to go by. Definitely use the financial aid calculator, as mathmom suggested. Hope that helps =)

Just anecdotally: Tufts Financial Aid Office is notoriously difficult. I have several friends whose aid has been decreased drastically this year and are scrambling to appeal decisions in order to be able to return to school in the fall. There may be students who’ve had nothing but good experiences with the financial aid office, but there are also a large number of students who’ve had really poor experiences getting and keeping the aid they need to attend Tufts. I love Tufts, but poorly administered financial aid is definitely one of our weakest points.

D1 attends Tufts and loves it, but the financial aid for those of us in the middle is notoriously terrible - much less than many other NESCAC schools. It’s quite generous for those with significant need, but most of the students my D has met are from wealthy, full-pay families. Not many middle-income kids attend.
