Does U.Chicago have a decent econ program?

<p>This is a waste of a thread…</p>

<p>Our econ program is almost as good as our engineering program.</p>

<p>Reminiscent of a kid in my friend’s pre-adviser meeting during O-Week: [looks at course catalog] “where are the engineering courses?”</p>

<p>Who here is part of class of 13?</p>

<p>I’ll take a quick stab at actually answering the question beyond a simple statement.</p>

<p>The reason its considered the best undergrad econ program is because it’s based off of a much more complete and rigorous mathematical basis. Many of our professors are PhDs from schools such as MIT, Harvard and Princeton and make it a point to mention that none of their schools have an Econ program that is anything like ours. MIT is similar, based on multi variable calculus, I think, for the most part, but still not as tough.</p>

<p>There was a student I knew from Harvard that enrolled in the Econ PhD program and then dropped out because he said Chicago students learned in their 2nd year the things he was learning as electives in his 4th. It’s much more intense, much more real, and just a stronger program in general. Plus there are some really good professors.</p>
