Does U Mich care about demonstrated interest?

Is UMich a school that cares about demonstrated interest such as campus visits etc.?

If so, what are some way that a student could show interest without visiting? (I live very far away)

According to the CDS, they do consider level of applicant’s interest. If you do live very far away (i.e. beyond hours of driving distance), it is understandable not to have a campus visit. But you may express your interest by some other means.

Most universities gauge student interest factor it in the admissions decision. Michigan is no exception. Applying EA is a great way to demonstrate interest. Following up and reiterating interest, especially if deferred is another key signal. Writing a supplement that outlines how well you have researched the University as it pertains to your academic, intellectual and social interests is yet another sign of interest. There is no substitute for academic credentials, but demonstrated interest can make a significant difference.

Apply EA. If you are deferred, have your GC call to tell them that if you are accepted you will attend (if that’s true). The GCs in my children’s HS do this for Michigan because they know it helps (assuming you have the credentials).
