<p>They're awesome for math and physics I heard.</p>
<p>The programs are pretty theoretical but well regarded.</p>
<p>Argonne and Fermi labs in the area, you can guess that high energy physics is well represented, for example.</p>
<p>Comp Sci is not often thought of as a strength of Chicago, but it does offer a major, which, no surprise, is closely allied with the math department.</p>

<p>As posters have basically said, Chicago is a top 5 school in both math and physics, but takes possibly the most theoretical approach out of any school in the US. It is not, however, known much for its computer science department.</p>
