So i am an international student who took a 1900 on my first SAT as a sophomore... I have the a GPA of well i'd say 4 and my school doesn't offer any AP's so none for me.. :( So here's the deal.. I have been getting emails from U of chicago.. I thought they were maybe impressed with my SAT's.. until I came here.. and found they were nothing... :( I thought maybe it was because I was a sophomore, but I still got like 2 emails after I got a 1950 in junior year so.. i thought maybe u of Chicago is just like all the other stupid uni's but I found out it's ranked pretty high! I dunno.. is it cuz am internationl.. or do these emails mean nothing to start with?!
I mean they are all about how cool the school is generally just with
"Dear (my name)," on top.. So does that mean anything?! Or will I still get rejected all the same if I apply?
How good is the U of Chicago premed curriculum anyway?!
I emailed them, the admissions guy seemed pretty and said that they are "need blind" and can help me out financially.. mm.. too good to be true or what.. I mean i demonstrated nothing.. they just got their info from my collegeboard account I guess... I DUNNO! any one attending there who can help!?!?

My daughter has been getting tons of emails and snail mails from the U. of Chicago. I have no idea why. They even sent her a set of nerd glasses. She’s a junior and the emails started when she got a 3 and a 4 on the APs she took as a sophomore. We live 1500 miles from Chicago and the school is not really on her radar!

Relax, and don’t make rambling posts like this in the future.
Colleges send out emails and mail to many, many people to try and attract applicants. It means no bearing on your future application whatsoever.

To my knowledge yes, UChicago sends emails to anybody who either gives them their contact information/requests information or if they obtain your contact information through places like the College Board.
Most college emails are personalized (in terms of including your name in the email), it does not mean anything…
So yeah UChicago is a great school, they are need blind (it seems too good to be true, but its not), but they are also extremely competitive. The 1950 is a bit low for them (the only person I know to get accepted had almost 2300), but there are factors that go into consideration (especially the essay).
Let me know if you have any more questions…

^the reason i am not exactly bragging abt my gpa is cuz my school doesn’t offer any challenging courses; it all too easy! And that just makes me feel stupid… -_-… UUUUGH! this reaally is getting on my nerves and making me feel like am no good for any good uni… I am working for 2000+ and have been school president for two years, I have been involved in a fundraiser for Gambian orphans for two years too, and have basically organized every event in my school, and contributed to the school newspaper constantly… but that’s it… No big national thing cuz we dont have this stuff over here u know…
and the reason i didn’t mention this was cuz u of c DOESN’T KNOW THIS! so i guess they send out emails to whoever after all… or not? i dunno!!! very confused over here ppl! help!

oh… ok. some ppl posted …lol… srry for the rambling ._.

It’s okay, we all get a little frantic sometimes I hope we helped answer your question.

so u of c is just after applicants then… hmm… tht’s sad for me… so i aint close o their Majesty i suppose… ok then… whatever… :(

So i don’t have any chance then i suppose? not a teeny weeny one? lol… am desperate ain’t i… ?

Mass E mails are common practice. Colleges do that to attract a huge number of applicants and produce acceptance numbers in single digits or teens. When that goes on their colorful brochures it looks good

In all honesty they are also looking for a rough in the diamond. May be your daughter will get ACT of 35 and suddenly wants to go to University of Chicago. (?name recognition).

Please understand University of Chicago is Number 5 school and admissions are very competetive.

Yes, OP they are need blind but you should have SAT2400 or ACT 36 and prove the need.

i hate my life.

You don’t need a perfect score, but your SAT is low (also I believe you need to submit subjet tests), but your GPA, ECs and quality of essay/recommendations also matter.

It is called marketing and chicago is very good at trying to get you to apply.

are they good enugh so far?! minus essay of coarse and rec

I have no idea what your grades or ECs are…Post them and we can speak to them, though like we all have said your SAT needs to improve to have a realistic chance.
Also know that UChicago values the essay much more then most schools.

I already have said that… scroll up :D

Bump… Bump … Bump…

COME ON YOU GOT A 1950 ON YOUR SAT! lol Chicago is sending those emails out to anyone who is interested in there school!! you prob gave info! But with no hard classes and a 1950! I think that school is a high high reach for you!

Don’t listen to Prospie there; he seems to be a ■■■■■ on Yale’s side. They are superior to everyone, and everyone else only SEEMS selective by their marketing. Ignore him.
