Does UC Berkeley view transfer major gpa or commutative gpa

Hello peeps , I am wondering if UC Berkeley will check my major gpa, commutative gpa or both for that matter? I am a current cc student majoring in mathematics with a 3.5gpa ( I know /: ), although, my major gpa is a 4.0. I am crossing my fingers in hope that the 4.0 will help me get in ! Do I have a shot at UC Berkeley and will the 4.0 be a positive factor or non at all . Please be blunt with me and honest thanks in advance.

Berkeley looks at everything, and the GPA on your application reflects all the college courses you have taken whether in major or not. But, for some majors, they care far more about your technical courses than anything else. For example, about 7 years ago my boyfriend started and stopped a sociology degree through CC classes. He didn’t get terrible grades, but not Berkeley-quality grades. Then a few years ago he went back for mechanical engineering and earned a 3.89 in all of those classes, and often had the highest grade in his classes of any student. Even though his overall GPA averaged to 3.68, which is MUCH lower than what is commonly admitted for engineering transfers, they focused entirely on his engineering grades and he was admitted with scholarships and what not. I do not know how the math department works, but you can only take a shot and find out.
