Does Uchicago actually check if you graduate?

I know they check your grades at the end of the year, but do they check if you actually graduate or not. How do they know? Thanks.

Generally your final high school transcript, which they receive, will say whether you graduated.

I think if you look you will see that graduation from high school is not actually a requirement for admission to the University of Chicago (as it isn’t for many elite colleges). So as a technical matter, they don’t care.

But. If the reason you don’t graduate is you flunked all your courses, or got kicked out of school for serious disciplinary reasons, or simply stopped coming to school in order to watch more TV . . . they will probably consider rescinding your admission. At the very least, you will probably be asked to explain what happened. But I don’t think they rescind admissions often – they know it’s very tough for a student to find another college place in mid-summer – so if you have anything that looks like a reasonable explanation (or promise to learn from your mistakes), and threats of violence or harm to other people was not involved, then you will likely be OK. If you kill someone, or try, your admission will probably be rescinded, but that won’t be your biggest problem at the time.

Why do you ask?

I applied as a Junior on a whim and I got in EA. I really would like to attend, but I need one more credit to officially graduate. I told them on my app I was a junior though.

You don’t if you got in as a junior. I think it was pretty clear that you intend to skip senior year. Call and ask them what to do with your final report or something. My friend who skipped his senior year watched graduation with us in the audience last year.

I’m pretty sure that if you attend UChicago without a high school diploma, they give you one after a year… as long as you have a 2.0 or something.

hahahahaha.

This. You don’t need a high school diploma to attend UChicago; it’s just that most incoming freshmen will have graduated as seniors.
