I only know UCI as having a medical reputation.
Would it be wise to get a mba from Irvine over Cal Poly or UCLA?

They are top 50 in their program

Under UC, Hass(Berkeley) > Anderson (UCLA) > others. Marshall of USC is also reputed. For MBA program, reputation is very important, goto the top one you can get into.

Top 50 doesn’t really say much, but thank you. I was wondering because UCI has a 3+2 program to get an mba now and I’m majoring in engineering and I aim to get an mba eventually, but I’ll probably try somewhere higher.

Does Cal Poly (Slo) have a good mba reputation though?

Now I see your situation and understand why you consider UCI over UCLA. I know the 3+2 program is very tempting, so what are you going to do after your 3+2 program? Keep in mind that, most of the top MBA program require work experience for admission.

I only know Cal Poly has a strong under business program. I’m afraid I couldn’t give much input here.

I suggest you goto the MBA board so seek some opinion.

If you land your engineering job in a large company, many empolyers are willing to pay for you MBA tuition. At least that’s true before this economy down turn

is this true of only the private sector or does the govt (say NASA) fund you too?

I’m not sure about govt, look into NASA’s employment web page to see if you can find anything. For large parivate companies, if you goto their employment/benefits website, they will state this perk if they offer it, to attract the talented and retain those wants to move up on ladder.

Actually it’s any further study related to your job, like a master degree in your field. For MBA, Marketing, Management are fine if you’re considering moving to marketing or management. But if you’re an engineer, but go for the program of finance, your tuition won’t be reimburse. And I belive you need to maintain a certain GPA, like 3.0, I’m not sure.
