Does UCI have an engineering reputation?

As compared to Cal Poly Slo?
And how does it stack against UCLA?

Ranking wise yeah UCLA (and i think SLO too but not sure since they're not together) outranks UCI.

Is UCI's engineering program reputable to people? (employers and not)

yea i'm wondering about this too...and is UCI's MAE dept up there? haha

General speaking, the reputation is less important for engineering major than business major. However, I find the most useful gauge is to check into each college's career center and look into its gradute outcome (employment statistics). I know Cal Poly post this info on-line, but not sure the other two.

I'll research that tomorrow, but for now does anyone know?
I never heard of UCI being an engineering school so I'm assuming its not for now. Can anyone disprove this?
I've heard of ucb ucla ucsd n ucd being good engineering schools though.

It's not much an engineering school but do not question UCI's superb ranking on CHEMISTRY, BIOLOGY, COMPUTER SCIENCE

among other scientific fields

And where would you find info on these rankings?

UC Irvine Engineering Jumps Rank on 2008 U.S.News and World Report Best Colleges List | The Henry Samueli School of Engineering

I think being ranked in the top 50 is pretty impressive.

top 50 is but I have to consider other schools as well (UCLA and Cal Poly Slo which both I hold higher than UCI in engineerin)
What do employers think of UCI engineering? I read they don't hold them highly and that some companies in the Irvine area don't even recruit there.

I mentioned this before but in terms of companies recruiting:
We have career fairs every quarter that attract all kinds of companies.
I know for a fact the school of engineering also hosts its own career fairs, I saw one during Engineering week with TONS of big name companies.

I doubt calpoly has a stronger engineering reputation than UCI, UCLA maybe.

actually UCLA and UCI's engineering schools share the same name, which is interesting.

actually cal poly slo has an awesome engineering program from what i hear, one of the best

California Polytechnic State University - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

:)

I've only known UCI to have a reputation in medicine. Can anyone repute this?

peach - the wikipedia entry states that Calpoly is ranked #2 among public universities where the highest degree is a masters. Thats a completely different ball game than the UC's.

Cal Poly has a great engineering department. My son was extremely bummed when he didn't get accepted (even with great stats). Mechanical engineering is very hands on while (I hear) the Ucla engineering is more book learning. It's a tough program either way. I guess the thing to do is look at the area, think about the type of learner you are.

I've thought about that and I see Cal Poly as the better choice, but I'm keeping Irvine open since I think I'll enjoy it more there. (less competition than UCLA and better demographics - I'm asian - ) So if Irvine has a decent engineering reputation I may go there to enjoy college more. Anyone know if it is reputable? cuz since no one has said anything and I've never heard of UCI being an engineering school it seems like a no.

UCI engineering > Calpoly engineering

why? can i have some reasons tommy

Yeah doesn't seem like UCI has an engineering reputation over ucla or cal poly. Would it be smarter to go to UCI for undergrad then go somewhere better for my masters? Since I could probably hold a higher gpa at UCI.

The easiest school to earn a high GPA would be Cal Poly SLO. You could do undergrad there and get a high GPA fairly easily and then attend UCLA or UCI for grad school (since Cal Poly doesnt have grad school)
