Does UCSD care about IB Diploma?

I'm a full IB student and have taken all the classes and will be taking all the tests, however, if I don't get my diploma for some reason, would UCSD rescind my admission?

I mentioned "IB Diploma" next to "High School Diploma" in the UC App box that says what diploma are you going to graduate with...I'm worried that if I didn't get it, that would be a "discrepancy" in my application. I'm really worried because I have built myself up from all the coursework but now this diploma that basically says "yes, he did it" might take all that away...

Can anyone give me some insight? Thanks for your help

I doubt it. I was in the IB program and I’m pretty sure me and all my classmates put down “IB Diploma” as well, and one of my classmates didn’t get his diploma but his admission to UCI didn’t get rescinded.

You’ll probably get your diploma! IB is really nice, IMO. I got one point over the minimum hahaha, I was so lucky

But yeah, they’re not going to ask you to send it in or anything. they won’t rescind you

They don’t really ask for it, haha. I don’t think the Diploma means anything to UCs as much as the scores on your upper divs do. But you do get 30 units if you get 30 points on your diploma, which is the only reason they’d ask to see it. They won’t rescind you.

Oh, okay! Thanks for all the input guys.

In case any of you were wondering what the problem is, I didn’t meet with my EE Advisor at all, and bs’d my footnotes on my paper. So then he is like ***, etc. I showed him all my sources, and while he found that I didn’t plagiarize anything, the issue is that they don’t have evidence that I DIDN’T plagiarize anything…-_-

It sucks because I asked him, and he said the paper is actually pretty decent. So yeah, excessive mental retardation on my part for not doing footnotes properly shoots self

A note was sent in by my school’s IB coordinator that he thinks this was just a case of sloppy citing of sources. So now the grader is either going to give me an N, if he/she thinks my work is unacceptable, or somewhere around a C/D otherwise. I think I either got a B or C on TOK, so yeah. stops filibustering

thanks again =]

enemyunit, get a conscience!!! You are a deceiver, a cheater. It was NOT an issue of sloppy citing, and you know it! You’re going to get what you deserve, eventually. Your poor character may fool a few, but you will get it in the end (in more ways than one, pal).

^ That’s basically what my advisor was thinking. You all are free to think that, I seriously don’t blame you. If I were you I’d be thinking that too. There is no evidence to prove my side of the case.

I understand your concern and view towards those who cheat on papers like these, and I share it. Unfortunately for me, the case is that this is an issue of sloppy citing. If sloppy citing deserves a revoked diploma, then yes, I full accept that I am getting what I deserve.

I would ask you to try to see it from my perspective, but it’s hard to do that if you don’t trust someone is telling the truth. Once again, I don’t blame you.

enemyunit, the correct thing to do is to notify those in authority who will be grading “your” work and to tell them about your “slip up”. This will be extremely tough, but buck up and take responsibility for your actions. It is only fair for those of us who work extremely hard and have not, nor ever will, “cheat” one iota in IB. At least do this for your own conscience so you can let yourself off the hook. Good luck, bud.

^Is this a joke? you don’t even know him, how do you know if he actually cheated? get a life

just tell your teacher you’ll submit it to turnitin.com and that should clear up any doubts

Hey Sandie, no, this issue is not a joke. This is serious for those of us who uphold the standards of IB and academia. Cheaters are NOT okay in society and they are not, hopefully, wanted at UCSD. If they are, then who wants to attend a school full of students who did not obtain their grades through integrity.

Sandie, in the very words (by whom he is identified as a cheater) of said “cheater”: “Unfortunately for me, the case is that this is an issue of sloppy citing.”

These words alone would convict him even by an unseasoned jury. I will get a life . . . while you get a conscience. Capiche?

No I totally agree I hate cheaters too, I think they are disgusting. It’s unfortunate how much it happens at UCSD. I had no idea until recently. But I’m just saying, if we don’t even know this kid, we don’t know that he actually cheated or if it was 4 AM the night before the extended essay was due (been there, done that) and he was simply mis-citing.

PS my name’s not sandie

He knows what he did. BTW, my name is not TrueLove :)

Hahahahaha

TrueLove: I know what I did, I cited sloppily. Once again, I will take the full punishment for that crime, whether it be a lowered grade on my EE, or receiving a “Not Completed” assigned to it. I don’t mind if you don’t believe me, but please calm down.

ucsandiego915: I actually looked up turnitin.com, but it’s hella expensive since (at least from what I understood) the school purchases a license to use it for all it’s teachers? I brought it up with my advisor, he…didn’t really say anything about it -_-. I hella wish it was free

haha, actually yeah, it was like 5AM night before, and I finished typing everything up (without footnotes). Had some sources, but not others (returned to library) so I decided to h-ell with it and just bs’d the page numbers and printed it out.

I can’t get any more honest than that people.

I can understand that. I’m sure you know this, but make sure you don’t do it in college… hahaha they are actually very strict about that. And turnitin.com (which most of my profs use) WILL find the tiniest citing mistakes!

Yeah my advisor was telling me about that. Lesson learned very well.

I’m fine with turnitin, since I don’t buy papers online or w/e ppl do, but I’m just slapping myself for blowing off the citations.

@enemy, sorry about coming on so strong.

Truelove: Don’t worry about it. If I were you, I probably wouldn’t believe me either. It’s hard to believe people when it comes to stuff like this. Regardless, I still appreciate your comments.
