Does UCSD consider res college when applying?

Will it count against me if I apply to a more popular college like Muir? Or do they not consider that when choosing applicants?

According to the UCSD website (and also what an admissions rep stated when I was attending a UCSD college visit), college choice does not affect admissions chances.

When we ask you to “rank” the Colleges, we are asking you to state your preference for College assignment, should you be offered admission to the University. Your rankings will not affect our evaluation of your application for admission–you are not applying to the Colleges, you are applying to the University. If you are offered admission, the Admissions Office will consider your rankings when assigning you to a College.

Basically, your choices are only considered if/when you are admitted to UCSD as a whole, and only for placement into a specific college. Hope that helped!
