i know they have a university link program which lets local CC students attend if they have a 3.5 gpa by the end of the fall semester before they apply (along with some other requirements)
im in that program but my gpa is 3.47 and im taking some difficult classes this semester. if i dont fulfill that gpa requirement, do you think they might reject me? i didnt take a communications class because i never thought about going to a csu or state (im a science major and csu/state arent known as being good for research), so will they take that into consideration if they decide to reject me? i realized that if i get rejected there, i wouldn’t have anywhere else to go…
of course i will definitely try to get a 4.0 this semester! but im just trying not to stress out over the possibility of being rejected to my local UC and having no where to possibly transfer to. does that happen? has anyone ever gotten rejected everywhere and had no where to transfer to? im applying to either UCSB or davis on TAG but i realize that i probably can’t really afford to move so far away; ive known transfers who have been accepted to davis and were registered to go and everything but couldn’t secure housing the day before classes begun and had to drop out and wait a year before applying to schools again. im just really worried about the same thing happening to me (my family is low income)
No, UC’s do not give priority to local applicants. They give priority to CA community college transfers over other types of transfers. If you want local priority, you need to look at The Cal state system.
locals get no preference and UCSD doesn’t do TAG anymore so, be sure to keep other options open. It is certrainly possible to get shut out as a UC transfer applicant, even with a 3.5 GPA. You should definitely apply to SDSU and San Marcos - maybe TAG UCI which wouldn’t take you as far from home as the other UCs.
As far as Davis goes, housing is tight close to campus - especially last minute. Advance planning is best. There are plenty of apartments 15 min away (W Sac, Woodland and Dixon) if you were really stuck, you could make the drive for a quarter or 2 in stead of waiting a year to reapply (which may not work out)
Plan ahead, keep your options open and I think you’ll find a path that works for you.
Good luck.
i cant apply to CSU schools because i never took communications lol
so, why not find time in your schedule to take it next semester?
it needs to be completed by the fall before transfer. add deadline passed weeks ago.
And there’s no on-line option? Besides, SDSU and San Marcos says you have until the end of Spring

Since you have to stay in San Diego County to earn your degree, you’d be a fool not to take the class and apply to all 3 public universities that meet the criteria. You might as well TAG UCI, SB or D to keep the out of town door open.
