I was accepted to College Park Scholars and got a $5000/year (over 4 years) Presidential scholarship. Senioritis has hit me pretty hard, so my grades second semester haven't been that great. I think I my worst case scenario would be: 2 B's, 2 C's, and 3 D's.

Thus, I have two questions:
(1) Do we need to send final transcripts to UMCP (and do they even really look at the grades?)? I've heard that we need to bring transcripts to freshman orientation for advising, and that they may look at your transcripts, but just to see that you graduated.
(2) If a final transcript is required/scrutinized, would my grades be enough to have my admission and/or scholarship revoked? I've seen so many conflicting answers to this question and I really don't know what to believe.

Please don't reply if you don't know for sure or if your reply doesn't pertain specifically to UMCP. If you do reply, please state your source, and if you talked to a UMD rep or someone like that, can you say what year you received your info? The more recent, the better.

Sorry for being so anal, but I just want to be certain. Plus, I'm sure others would appreciate it too if this information was accurate and up to date.

I don’t think I had to send my transcripts to Maryland. For advising I did bring a copy of my transcripts (I remember because I called my high school the week before orientation to ask them to print a copy, and the secretary told me I wasn’t on the list of recent grads-one of the scariest moments of my life. I immediately called my guidance counselor and left a message with the principal and it turned out NHS was on a different list.)

Anyway, as long as you graduate I’d say your fine. No D’s would be an extremely good idea. If you’re really worried call admissions without stating your name.

I am in a similar situation now…what was your result?

If you want to know for sure, you need to contact UMD itself, not students on an online forum. You can email them anonymously if you’re nervous about alerting them of bad grades, but the only way for you to be 100% sure is to ask someone from UMD admissions.

I don’t think that anyone can really give you guys info based off of personal experience. It looks like sending in final transcripts is a new procedure starting with Fall 2012 freshman.

not that I am trying to bust your bubble, but with the grades that they mentioned, chances are that they will rescind admission or take away your scholarship. I remember reading somewhere on the hopkins blog that if your grades go from A’s to C’s, they will rescind admission. Now hopkins has higher standards, but still.

Does your scholarship letter say anything about high school grades as a condition?

Just something else to throw out there: “In order to allow time to verify your high school graduation, please provide your final transcript as soon as it is available.”

It honestly doesn’t sound that serious.

My son’s high school doesn’t report second semester grades, only final grades. What is the standard practice at your high school?

Are the grades you’re reporting for the second semester or final grades for the year?

In any event, if you were admitted to Maryland and have a scholarship, I imagine that the grades that you’re reporting are a significant slide from your first semester.

Multiple Cs and a couple of Ds are bad. If these represent final grades for the year, that will put you in a difficult situation.
