I recently got a 4 on the AP world history test and plan on taking more AP tests my junior and senior year and I was just wondering if UMD honored these as college credits. Thanks.

DD1 entered UMD with 50+ credits because of AP credits. She had enough credits to be considered a junior after her first semester. DD2 was not far behind when she entered 2 years later. They fulfilled the vast majority of their CORE requirements. We found that most private schools would not award credit, but would sometimes consider AP scores for placement in classes. UMD was the most generous in terms of the public schools they applied to, with respect to the particular AP tests taken.

How long did it take for your daughters to graduate with so many AP credits?

Both went for double degrees (150+ hours), in 4 years. D1’s majors were related (see my screenname, so she also had a foreign language minor). Each could have done it in less time with fuller courseloads each semester, but college isn’t just about the classes, and there didn’t seem to be a driving need to rush it. D1 just graduated, and has 5-6 yrs of Ph.D. work ahead of her + post doc work, D2 will be starting her 3rd yr as a terp this fall.

@33, I entered with 55 credits but plan to spend a full 4 years at Maryland. I will never have another chance like this to study a broad range of topics and to take advanced courses in many fields, not just my majors. Once I move on to Medical School there will be no time for such indulgence.
