Does university of chicago reject early action applicants

Does the University of Chicago reject early action applicants or do they only defer?

They reject them.

they reject

I’m flabbergasted. There isn’t one reject so far. Maybe I’m just “soft rejected”.

i got rejected

hey, if you got rejected or deferred, dont be discouraged.

Early Action pools consist of the most competitive applicants in the country; just cuz chicago defers/rejects you doesn’t mean you dont have a shot at other great colleges.

oh, and to answre your question lol, yeah they do reject some ppl =/

@collegeftw: I thought EA pool would be weaker? Because the RD pool consists of HYPSM applicants, and if they think they can get in anyway… no need to EA.

Er, no, there are plenty of HYPSM applicants who EA Chicago (or Georgetown). It’s nonrestrictive, so there’s no reason not to.

And early pools in general tend to be stronger (athletes and legacies notwithstanding) just because to apply somewhere EA you have to have your **** together two months earlier. This tends to mean better organized students, which means more top students.

Harvard, Princeton don’t have early.
Yale and Stanford and Single Choice and Restrict Early Action, respectively. I’m shooting for RD Stanford and Harvard even though I was accepted EA for Chicago.
Only MIT is nonrestrictive EA.

Correct me if I’m wrong.

There aren’t very many rejects because people here tend to be a bit stronger academically and because no one really wants to post if they were rejected

The only question is whether they rejected or deferred the majority of applicants, and I do not know the answer to that.

@Wolves, it is estimated that 1580 were accepted, and 1500 deferred. So I guess the rest are rejected. That’s right about half rejected. It certainly doesn’t seem that way on the results thread.

I hope that’s true. It seems highly unlikely though, unless CC is like entirely the top 25% of applicants

I’m in this camp. Top applicants who want a better chance of an early admission than Yale/Stanford SCEA/REA offers have no reason not to try for non-restrictive EA at Chicago. Besides MIT and Caltech, which obviously don’t suit everyone’s academic strengths, it’s the only T10 university with a non-binding/non-restrictive early program.

Ah. So all things considered, if I were deferred, I would be at least average, if not above average in the RD pool?

I think that’s fair to say.

Of course, only the top 10% of the RD pool actually gets in.

@Impero: Where did you find that ~1580 were accepted and 1500 deferred? Can you provide us with the link of the source?

you also have to consider the notion that some rejects might be too upset and/or embarrassed to post their status/stats. therefore, we don’t see many here on CC.

what were your stats like iamoronam? I want to get into u of c and im a junior. Whatwere your highschool scores and gpa

Soccerboy, you may want to be resourceful and check out the results thread, just a few threads above this one.
