Does USC dorms close down for Thanksgiving breaks?

Well my home is like 10 hours away.. by plane.. so if it closes for like a week for thanksgiving, it would just seriously suck.

Does the dorms close down for thanksgiving or do they keep it open? I know it closes for winter break but....

Hmm i wonder what international students do in these situations? (I'm not international but i'm getting pretty close to it...) Like dorms closing... do they go back to their houses however many miles away?

Thanks.

The dorms remain open over Thanksgiving break (and we play NOTRE DAME in football that weekend! BEAT THE IRISH!)

I'm pretty sure the dorms are still open. You'll have to confirm with someone at your dorm, though; otherwise you'll be knocking my door down on thanksgiving if I turn out to be wrong :)

The international students stay around. The university hosts a thanksgiving dinner with turkey and everything for the students that don't/can't go home.

Apparently it can get a little lonely, what with so many students gone, though.

Oh yeah btw can you buy individual football game tickets? I would buy the spirit card or whatever that things called but my money situation.. is a bit lacking. I want to goto some games but not all. Thanx for the awesomely quick reply btw

No, you can not buy individual game tickets for the student section... (Actually, I believe all games for this season are already sold out...the Washington game is the only one that might not be sold out). Besides, single game tickets are $50+, and the Spirit Activities Card is $150 (correct me if I'm wrong...) and that can get you in to every game PLUS every other sport (we do have a brand new basketball arena this year...and Timmy Floyd has the team on the rise)... But if you cant afford it, you cant afford it - I understand. You could always just use a friend's ID that isnt going to a specific game (For example, a lot of kids leave over Thanksgiving...use their IDs...)

The apartments definitely stay open, I'm not 100% sure about the dorms but I think they do too. Even for winter break, if you pay extra (I think like $200 or something), you can stay, but you might be herded into another dorm.

When dorms close for breaks (other than summer), do you have to clear out all your stuff?

And to those of you who live far away, where do you store your stuff during the summer?

For breaks during the academic year (Thanksgiving, Winter, etc.) you can leave everything in your dorm room, just don't expect access to it during the long winter break. For summer, you must move all of your stuff out by the end of your housing contract (usually 5pm on the last day of finals).

In terms of storage, I used the self storage place just east of campus. USC says they don't provide any sort of storage for students. You could also try to find a friend who lives locally or will be living nearby for the summer and see if they have space for your stuff.

Hm i was thinking about getting a spirit card right now but the site won't let me activate... o_O???

I put in my student ID number and my pin... is there something else i'm suppose to be doing?

I think individual game tickets ARE sold out so I guess I gotta get the spirit card or it's nothing. XP

Spirit cards are $135 & you can buy them online. Since you're at USC, you can ask your dorm's tech support person for help in ordering your Spirit Card on-line. My son used my credit card, but I believe debit cards are also OK (of course he'd rather use MY money than his <grin>).
You need to enable "cookies" for them to let you buy your Spirit Card, according to the site you listed. I told son I thought it was one of the best bargains on campus & so he promptly charged the Spirit Card on our joint credit card. Hmmmm.</grin>

Oh yeah, it's clear that dorms close of the winter break from 5pm on the last day of finals until move-in day in January at 8am. You can leave your belongings but NO ONE will be allowed into the dorms while they are closed, so take everything you need before they are locked up for the break. The winter break is the ONLY TIME during the dorm contract that the dorms are locked (& apartments are never locked during the contract). The dorms close for the summer at 5pm on the last day of exams & you need everything out by then. There are companies that will pick up your boxed great & store it & deliver it to wherever you say on the time & date you state, for a price. Other folks arrange to store their gear by paying a friend to store it at their apartment or elsewhere. You can, of course, make your own arrangements.

Because of the USCvsND football game over Thanksgiving Saturday, I'm guessing more folks will be around that weekend to watch the game (I know my son will & probably many of his friends). We know folks at ND who are trying to get tickets to attend the game as well, since it seems impossible to get them from ND.

Some other colleges close their housing even for long weekends & Spring Break, but fortunately USC doesn't do that, recognizing that it has students from many distant homes. Don't know anything about remaining at or around USC over the winter break but imagine you can ask at your Customer Service Desk in the dorm or contact housing at USC for more info. I'm sure there are folks who have done it for varying reasons.
