Does USC have a good nursing program?

Please give as much information as possible :) and it would be especially helpful if you were in the nursing program at one point! Thank you!

FWIW:

US News and World Report Report ranked USC School of Nursing Graduate program at 63rd of 450 schools in the USA…

That puts USC in top 15% of Nursing programs .

does this also apply for undergraduate nursing though? I mean, personally I’d assume so, but was just wondering if that was known at all

The way Colleges and Universities are ranked is
largely based on their graduate school and how much
research is produced there, forming the basis of a schools reputation.

My daughter is a freshman in the Honors College, she is also a Nursing major. She has decided that Nursing is not for her and will be changing her major to Pre-Med. Here is my 2 cents on the Nursing program. You are not admitted to the upper division until Junior year. They admit more freshman than they have spots for. They start with a 4.0 for upper division and work their way down in GPA until they fill all the spots. There is no set GPA for getting into the upper division. As far as course work, my daughter is in Organic Chemistry this semester. This course is specifically for Nursing majors. My daughter says the class is easier than her high school Honors Chemistry was sophomore year. Most of the students in her class do not feel that way. Nursing is not an easy major. I think USC would be a good place for Nursing as Columbia has several hospitals as well as a medical school. My daughter always wanted to be a Doctor, but decided Nursing would be an easier major. Oh well it is a woman’s right to change her mind. Good luck with your college search and if you do become a Nurse a job is already waiting for you. Remember USC gives alot of scholarships.

I also have a Honors College daughter, but she is a junior in the nursing program. She relayed similar comments about freshman and sophomore classes, however she has noticed a marked increase in the difficulty of upper division nursing classes. She has never worked so hard to maintain her grades and reports that many classmates are struggling with the upper level curriculum. CockyMom is correct, Nursing at USC is not an easy major.

My tour guide started out as a nursing major, but then switched to Business with an emphasis in Public Health, because she said nursing wasn’t for her. She said her classes were a lot harder than she expected.

So I’m taking it that USC’s nursing program must be pretty solid.
