Does USC weigh portfolios highly?

Can having an impressive portfolio boost your chances of getting into USC? (My GPA is not that great 3.6 and I want to become a design or architect major)

Yes, but it does depend completely on the program. I would assume having low grades in math/science/art and applying to architecture wouldn’t bode well. However, art and film majors do generally get into USC with “average” SATs and GPAs based primarily upon the contents of your portfolio.

I can’t really say for you because I don’t know where you suffered in your HS classes. If it was things like English and History, you might be OK.

It really depends. I have only seen one or two art-related majors ever who had sub-3.5 GPAs and they were both placed into the Structured Curriculum Program. Yes, you need a GREAT portfolio to get into USC’s art-related programs but you also need to have good grades.

I was rejected with a sub-3.5 GPA the first time I applied. The second time I reused a lot of my writing samples and I got in with a 3.6 GPA.

ohhhh, my GPA is basically screwed up because of mainly of language, and science but also, how many drawings would it be necessary to submit? On average I mean

Googling the USC Architecture portfolio requirements would have answered your question: [Portfolio Requirements](<a href=“USC School of Architecture”>USC School of Architecture)

If you performed poorly in physics, I don’t think that’ll help you admissions-wise, unless you have a stellar portfolio. If it was Biology, you might be able to swing it.

The portfolio is key. I know people that got in with <1800 SATs because of their portfolios. I’m not saying to expect to get in just because of it, but it’s not impossible.
