Does UW REALLY not consider intended major for the admissions process?

The UW website states that the school doesn't consider applicants' intended majors when admitting them to the school. Is this actually true? I feel as if that is extremely incorrect, and a blatant lie, to say the least. It does not make sense that a school disregards the interests of its incoming applicants because what if all of them happen to be intended Business majors?

One would presumably say at that point: "Well, they would regulate it to some degree so there isn't only one person coming in that's interested in American Ethic Studies while nearly 5,000 applicants want to go into Communications." If they're regulating and being wary of this then majors DO affect your admission into UW, no?

I don't get it. How can they not consider majors of applicants? Can someone explain this to me?

@lyndak here’s what I think : I remember someone mentioning in the official 2018 thread about how decisions are made. They go through:
General Admission ->Department/school admission.

I’m saying this because I was talking to a student of uw who was in his 4 th year. I asked him about the Foster B school and how to get in. He told me that either I get a direct admit into foster B school. But usually that doesn’t happen because Foster B school may have certain pre req classes. So it depends on WHAT you want to study and if there are pre reqs. If your major isn’t that competitive, sure you’ll get a direct admit
