Does Vandy match for merit based?

does anyone know if Vandy matches for merit based aid offered from another college? VU offered nothing for need based, but we might be getting swayed by merit based from another school.

If they do, you need to contact your admissions officer today. They may if Vandy regards the other as a peer school (another top ranked school, near-Ivy that is often named in the same ‘breath’ as Vandy), but I would consider it unlikely. Doesn’t hurt to ask, however. However, as always, nothing is guarenteed, and whatever you do, do it soon.

What is the other school?

Vandy and other schools know that their students can get large merit at other lower ranked schools, so they don’t usually care what those schools offer.

They might. You can ask for a review. You can always ask, but you do know that you are past the deadline for committing right now. You can call your Admissions person, the one who reviewed your file, thank him for accepting you, and let the person know that this is your first choice school, but that you are getting a larger enough merit award from another school that is really putting pressure on you from your parents, and if there is just anything Vandy can do to help you out. Keep in mind that this is not a negotiation here, but an appeal for help, a favor, advice.

Ahem…it’s May 1.

wow - you guys are great - thanks for your prompt responses. First-timer here. Just spoke to VU FinAid - they offer their own merit based programs, but do not match merit based offers from other schools :frowning: VU said yesterday that as long as envelope postmark is May 1, we’re good. Have also heard you can call Admiss offices to see if they can offer extension.
