Hey,
I got wait listed at Washington University in St Louis, does that mean rejection?? does Wash U waitlist most of people out of courtesy?

sadly, wash u's waitlist is notoriously huge and maybe 3-5 people if any get of it. i'm a freshman there now and last year i don't think a single person got off the waitlist. i'm sorry :(

If you go to the archives and look up the admission decisions for wash u last year, you will see that there were a huge number of waitlists. It seems that no one was rejected, just waitlisted.

basically waitlist isnt a full rejection it just means you will have the chance of getting in but its really hard depending on wher you are on the list. If you are at the top then thats good.

I think at WU the waitlist is like the next round...it's like okay you made the cut, which one of you can display the most interest now that you've been put in this situation? I thikn they all want you at their school based on your qualifications, they just want to make sure now whether or not you will come...For a place like WU i would see the waitlist as a positive sign.

thats not true people do get rejected from Wash U

stcoleridge: How do you "display interest" especially when u cant go visit? Write letters??

Lots of people from my high school apply to Wash U. I think about 15 were waitlisted last year. 1 actually got in off the waitlist. So it actually does happen, just not very often

I know a kid who had a 1550 SAT but mediocre rank last year. He got into all his schools except WashU which waitlisted him. Eventually WashU took him off the waitlist, but he decided to attend Tufts instead.

I got waitlisted too...DARN IT!

I know a couple kids who got off the waiting list; none attended though

I can't find the number (or percentage) of people accepted from the waitlist, but if you look ay last year's cc, you'll see that people DID get off the waitlist up til the last minute.

I guess that Wash U just wants to be nice to us... wait list is quite a rejection in my opinion.
