<p>Yes it would. BU does take the writing score into consideration for admissions.</p>

<p>That really depends on your other scores and intended major.
If M & CR are around 700 each or above, an average W score for a science or math major may not hurt. I know someone in that area with a W score of 600 and a 3.3GPA that was accepted into Harper for Bio.
OTOH, if your major is English or an art major, probably little chance.</p>
<p>^I think the OP was asking in general… While what you’re describing might happen depending on the mood of the admissions officer reviewing the app, in general all the sections are counted and weighed equally. (This is a change from when I applied three years ago- only M and CR was counted then).</p>
