Does Yale Disregard the SAT Writing Section...

.....................

No, it does not.

See Section C.8.

http://www.yale.edu/oir/cds.pdf

It doesn’t say anything about including/excluding the SAT Writing in C.8.

Also, I know they report the Writing stats, but that doesn’t necessarily mean they count it in admissions or they weigh it as heavily as the math and reading sections.

In response to the question in Section C.8. of the CDS, “Please indicate how your institution will use the SAT or ACT essay component; check all that apply,” Yale has checked the boxes “For Admission” for both the SAT essay and ACT essay.

The essays are portions of the Writing section of both the ACT and SAT. That means Yale is not disregarding the Writing section of either test. How strongly it factors into the decision is not disclosed. The common wisdom is that the essay matters less than the sentence and paragraph correction/improvement subsections of the Writing section.

^ agreed, just rule rule rule it. Yale does look at it though.
