Does Yale look at Sibling Applications?

Hello! I am a current high school senior who is applying to Yale RD. I have an older brother who graduated from Yale in the Class of 2016. When considering my application this year, will Yale admissions also pull up my brother’s application from when he applied in 2012?

I am worried as my brother had much better ECs than me coming out of high school and I worry his writing style is better than mine so when compared to his application, mine will be looked down upon?

So does anyone know if Yale will pull up sibling applications (from past Yale graduates) when judging someone applying this year?

No. But they will compare you against other applicants.

If anything, your sibling connection will help you substantially. Don’t get me wrong: you still must get in on your own merit, but it will get you in over a similar applicant with no connection to the school. Is this fair? Yeah, probably. You’re more likely to go if your sibling went there, which helps the school’s yield. Good luck!

You will be judged on your own merits relative to the other applicants this year.

Yale likes taking siblings. I can count 4 pairs of siblings attending now. I can’t imagine they would pull your siblings application though to compare.

In this case, Yale wouldn’t be taking both siblings. One is graduated.
I doubt they have full copies of your brother’s app.

But the issue, as noted above, is you compete against a very large pool of highly qualified kids. Not just a family member.

You need to know how to make your own best app package.
