“Fact is, that its location in Providence is not far (50 miles / one hour) from Boston …”

Suzie - I think I know what you are trying to say … but by this logic Poughkeepsie is not far from Manhattan, and Oakland is not far from Palo Alto. Clarify?

Well, it is true that a school that is 50 miles away from a particular city is not the same as being IN that city. However, in the case of Providence, it is not the same as saying the school is out in the sticks and it is 50 miles to the nearest city. Going to school in Providence means you could go into Boston for the day or for a concert or night out every easily. I doubt the GC thought J and W was in Boston but was suggesting schools near Boston and it is. I know when my D attended Brown, she liked the idea that it was not far from Boston even if she did not go there frequently. It was easy to do when she did so, however. Fast train.

Besides, Providence is a city itself with things to do, unlike say, Poughkeepsie.

I think saying Johnson and Wales would be like saying Clark University…not far from Boston but not IN Boston.

If one is looking for schools near Boston, it is not far fetched to mention schools like Clark, Holy Cross, Johnson and Wales, Brown, etc. They are not in Boston but students do go into Boston and it is pretty accessible.
