does your geographic location matter for public grad school?

you know how public schools love their instate students?

does that apply to grad school admissions as well?

for example, if i want to go to vtech, a virginia public school, for grad school. does it matter that i'm a va resident, thus boosting my chances? or is this only an undergraduate thing?

thanks everyone!

No, grad schools don’t care where you’re from for admissions purposes.

For those who are paying, in-state tuition rates are lower, though.

I always wondered about this. Schools would benefit from the higher out-of-state tuition rates, so I wondered if that factored into the decision process. Good to know.

If your program is fully funded, you won’t be paying tuition anyway.

Back in the last century, those of us who were OOS at the College of Agriculture at Cornell (one of the NYS divisions there) carefully maintained our OOS status in order to avoid the additional paperwork (TAPS??) that NYS residents had to file every year.
