Does your high school know about your acceptance?

Hi,
I was wondering whether your high school is notified by colleges that have accepted you or not. Or is it just up to you to inform the school (i.e. principal, guidance counselors, etc.) about the admission decision results?
Thanks to whomever knows the answer!

It’s up to you.

It’s up to you but D’s hs has a wall by the career center/guidance area where the kids post their acceptance letters, (some may say flaunt). It gives not only other students, but teachers from years past to see where their students are going to college.

They don’t always notify the school, but it’s up to the guidance counselor to find out. My guidance counselor told me she calls colleges to find out which students have been admitted (but then again I have a small class so they might not do this in public schools). She knew about most of my acceptances, except one where I was the only person in the class who applied. She probably calls colleges where a large number of people apply and she knows admissions representatives personally.

it is self reporting for most schools. At least most in my area.

Our college counselor regularly checks in with the colleges to keep up, but it is certainly appropriate for a student to inform the teachers that wrote the recs and the counselor.

Probably depends on the school, but our counselor gets e-mailed the names of accepted students from most colleges.

My guidance counselor requires us to tell them for record keeping. There’s a wall they post your name on where you got in, but you can opt out of doing that.

If your school uses Naviance or a similar system, they want you to report all of your results so that they can update their data - which helps in advising next year’s students. Depending on the size of your school and the role your guidance counselor has played in your process, they can help you make the final decision if you are trying to decide between 2 or more schools. Finally, your hs has to send a transcript to the college you are going to attend in the fall. So, whether it is the guidance counselor or the registrar - you have to let the appropriate person know so that the final transcript can be sent out this summer.

my school has 1400 seniors. I doubt they have the resources to account for all that :)

Well, 1400 seniors is a lot! But they still have to send out your final transcript - all colleges require that - so you still need to inform someone of where you will be attending in the fall.

Oh, we just go to the front desk and sign a request form, it’s really nothing formal. Then you just go back to class and pray they don’t lose the form amongst the thousand others .__.

Yes, your high school will know where you were accepted/where you are going. Your GC is required to send your final transcript to the college you will be matriculating at.

Last year a girl at my son’s school lied about some of the schools she got accepted to…it was so embarrassing when she was found out because the GC talked to the admissions office at one of the schools she had claimed to have been admitted to while advocating for a student still on the waitlist…GC had said something along the lines of “well, you admitted Nessie and this waitlisted student’s profile is even stronger, and she really wants to attend your school…” and the admissions rep said, “whoa, we didn’t admit Nessie…”

To send your final transcript, they WILL know your final school choice.

Most high schools will not send the final transcript unless you request it and tell them where to send it. The colleges will not make the request, you have to do this. Also, the HS won’t know other colleges that you have been accepted to but choose not to attend unless you tell them. One school did send a scholarship award certificate to the high school to be handed out at senior awards night.

At my school, we bring our acceptance letters down to guidance so they can make a copy for their records/Naviance. While there, they ask you if you want your acceptance read on the morning announcements, which is really nice. =)

usually you tell the guidance counselor yourself- i did that and reported it on naivance.

at my school, the seniors used make stars of each school they got accepted at that said “gleeful at _____” but then we weren’t allowed to do that since some seniors “felt bad about what schools their peers got into.” so now we can only do it for our final choice

Psh, you guys and your Naviance. Us public school students ain’t got no Naviance

^I attend a public school.

We don’t have naviance either. prior to CC; I didn’t even know what that was.
