As mom of a HS freshman, I figure I'm good to post here for a year, year and a half. Maybe. At some point, I should probably let S know of this resource, or let him find it himself (oh, please, let him do that!), and that would probably mean the end of my posting time here. I can't see my S wanting to post here if I'm here.

Do you share space on this site with your S/D?

D is the one who told me about CC, a few years ago. She never registered or used it much, and finds it amusing that I'm now an avid fan. Her younger brother (a HS soph) knows about it, but has no interest at all in coming here.

I found CC...I told DD about it, but she asked me to glean the information, and pass along what I thought might be helpful....DD is now a freshman in college.

I found CC when DD1 was looking at schools. I would send links to interesting threads which she usually read. I am now doing the same with DD2. Neither one was interested in joining in themselves.

Hahahha...my whole family considers me neurotic....H refers to you all as "my little friends" :)

Last year, when D1 was doing the college search, I told her about it, but urged her not to use it......the kids who post here, and many of the parents who do on behalf of their kids, are NOT indicative of the general population of college applicants across the country..... the stats, chances, etc. threads are very far slanted on the top kids, most competitive #s.... They are here, because they have the most invested (and usually the loftiest goals) of most high schools senior....Basically, heavily loaded on the over-achievers. She was already under enough stress that she didn't need more by coming here and jumping into the craziness. Occasionally, I'd send her a link to a particularly relevant thread, but usually I'd cut and paste things and send to her. Of course, I truly admit to being a CC addict, and will be jumping from being the mom of a college freshman to having D2 into the race, beginning this summer/fall....

"Hahahha...my whole family considers me neurotic...."

I was put to a dare by my H last night; whether I could stay off the laptop throughout a whole movie we were watching on DVD....I did it!!! and I did not go through withdrawal.......

D scorned it and I don't think S1 knows about it. And as for whether I'd like to keep it that way - that's why I started the thread about the ** SECRET ** CC handshake to use on college tours. :D

Back in the day, D1 would read a few threads to find out specific info but never posted. To the best of my knowledge, D2 does not read CC at all. Both girls spend a lot of time on-line but off in their own MySpace/Facebook/IM/Blog world.

Very funny to read all the above! D definitely considers my presence here as a "character flaw" as MarathonMan88 reports!! In fact, when I met some CCers in NYC recently, she came along, but only to make sure they weren't crazies! Periodically I send her links, but I think she only tolerates them. D seems to have very little time to spend on anything else, which must be true for many of these high-achieving students. But I have learned a lot, and despite her attitude toward CC, I believe she has benefited from info acquired here. Plus, S is now a HS freshman.....

My son was not interested, though he would read links to threads I thought he would be interested in his senior year. Both my kids don't understand the attraction - though both do post on forums that interest them.

Hmmm, my daughter is here from time to time but definitely not as frequently as I am. We don't frequent the same forums either - not sure how to describe the areas of CC. Daughter definitely thinks I am obsessive compulsive about her college search - much different search going on than with her older brother- but there are times that I just have to point out how much crazier other parents are! (That was definitely a joke!)

Yes!! My D also thinks I'm OCD about this!! But hey, she got into her #1 choice, and even though she won't admit it, I think my perspective helped a little!!
