Does your school's prestige matter for Engineering?

<p>If I want to be a petroleum engineer, maybe just with a BS or maybe an MS or PHD, how much will it matter the ranking of the school I attend for undergrad?</p>

<p>I made some bad decisions and got rejected from my current school's (UTexas) petroleum engineering program, but I am in the Geosystems eng major, and I'm trying to decide if I should transfer. However, if I transferred to another school's Petro program, it would be a lower ranked school (Oklahoma, TxTech, or LSU) so would I be better off just sticking with UT's Geosystems major?</p>

<p>Keep in mind I want to be a petroleum engineer, so how much will prestige matter?</p>

<p>I hope your petroleum engineering curriculum doesn’t ask you to do research using search functions…</p>

<p>those threads don’t include the nuances of my situation where the more prestigious school would be geosystems engineering rather than petroleum and yet i am shooting for a petroleum job.</p>
