Does your uncle count as legacy?

Hi to all!
So my uncle was something of a legend at Cornell, and I have Cornell on my list of top 5 schools. Would I still be a legacy if my uncle went to Cornell?

Typically it has to be a parent, but check with Cornell

i’ll be sure to

Cornell offers space on the common app only for you to list if your parents or grandparents attended. There is also a space to put whether or not your parents worked there. I was really hoping for more because I have a plethora of family members who attended and/or worked there. Unfortunately, they don’t really consider your uncle having attended as important.

If your uncle was Bill Nye or Janet Reno, maybe they’d have some pull, but typically they’d have to be on that level for a non-parent to count.

If your uncle donated a $100 million library bldg, u might get to bask in the “honorary legacy” glow, even if your own parents aren’t development-case material themselves.
