Hello.
On this upcoming fall, I am applying to UCs. Also, I have two major requirement courses left.
The courses are available through this year summer!
Would you say that I would have an advantage over other applicants if I finish all of my major requirements by Summer?
My major is BA Anthropology.
Thank you very much for reading.
No, not at all. Having them done by the end of the Fall would look good, but it doesn’t really matter much at all.
Thank you @goldencub I think I will just take the courses. And see if I can get A’s in all of them…
Are they difficult courses, or not really?
If they’re difficult (and the program you’re trying to get into is competitive) I would do one in summer and one in fall, unless you know you can get As in both. Have you ever done summer classes?
It won’t be beneficial to your application having it all done by summer, other than simply having them off your plate.
They don’t even even look at your application until February 1 at the earliest so it makes no difference. Might be a good idea in case you can’t get the classes or can’t get them to match your schedule in the fall though.
The most beneficial thing regarding admissions would be to have As in those classes, not to mention how that would boost your GPA. Whether you take it in the Summer or Fall is irrelevant. The only benefit to doing them before Spring would really be to boost your transfer GPA and they can see the grades you got in them already at time of application review, etc.
Thank you for your replies. I see, I always thought they will begin the review from December (this is why I wanted to finish by summer). And I believe, yes, it’ll be good to take the classes separately. I’ll just take one in summer (I’ve taken summer class previously).
Nope, they only start on freshman applications at that time. You submit your fall grades via the “transfer academic update” which has a deadline of January 31. After the deadline they begin reviewing transfer applications.
I think you made the right choice. One class is reasonable for interim session. I’ve taken two before and while it’s not excessively difficult, it’s like the equivalence of taking 18 units in a regular semester so that’s something to keep in mind.
Thank you, now I have a clear view of application process.
Thank you very much!
