Im looking at the following schools to add onto my list:

Brown
NYU
George Washington
University of Maryland- Coll Park

Im a NY state resident,

Stats

Im a Russian immigrant living in a family of low socioeconomic level.

Which of the following schools should i add? Brown
Tufts
NYU
GWU
University of Maryland-College Park

Hey, I think we talked on AIM once. Honestly I seriously doubt Brown will come through. You have alot of match/ reaches so hedge your bets with a safe school like UMD.

Well my counselor told me i have a great chance at Cornell, Brandeis, Rochester, NYU and BU. Tufts and Brown are definitely in the range of lower than 10% possibility. My safety school is my SUNY which is Binghamton University. I used to have Syracuse Univ (not bad ranking on US News; higher than BU ironically) as my safety but then realized its a ***ty school and its not for me. I have no safety schools if you move up the rankings above 40. Below 40 everything is crp except BU and Binghamton.

Therefore, im keeping the list as is.

Also, in terms NYU, GWU, Tufts, Brown, and Maryland: Im pretty sure im not applying to GWU as of in recent days. I will probably apply to NYU's Gallatin School, and i can show a strong footing for that. In terms of Brown, Tufts, and Maryland....i may end up ditching both Brown and Tufts honestly. My counselor may advise against it. If i had to choose, id take off Brown because it doesnt offer what i want at all which is (health, society, and policy). Maryland....i hear good and bad. Generally, i hear bad, especially for out of state. Maryland as a safety? Maybe. Probably not. Tufts....selectivity way too crazy in my HS, so that may sway me away from it. So my top 3 out of those 5 are NYU, Maryland, and Tufts. I need some time to decide.

First, let me finish and send out my Cornell ED App!! (Will send in within the next 2 weeks or so)

Oh, yes i am fully aware of all of the above. Im into sciences/social sciences...applying to College of Human Ecology. They have a great mix of medicine and law. I dont know if Brown's open curriculum is something that i like.

Major at Cornell would be Biology & Society. Other schools are different named majors but they all focus on the same thing: "Health and society"

dude, do ur research, ppl have gotten into cornell with 1240s.......my counselor told me i have a very high chance. You dont know wat you're talking about. CC is filled with a statistical anamoly. Everyone here is rich, white, snobby, and has 1450+ SAT. Dont you think thats just a little bias considering the avg SAT score in America is 900?? Many people get in with 1250, 1300, 1350, etc. Dont be ignorant. Get your facts right, and be a little more openminded about admissions. You have a very sheltered view of it. Its totally the opposite of that, especially in Cornell where they emphasize holisticism and the essays.

My friend, a Cornell freshman, had a 1570 and a 3.95/4.00 unweighted GPA. Others with lower stats didn't get in. Ppl tend to think Cornell is quite easy to get in, but it is actually very hard to get in. You definitely need a much higher SAT I score.

i think u should do ED...listen, you have a 0% chance of getting in if u dont apply at all..if cornell is where u wanna go, u might as well try. maybe u'll have an outstanding essay? who knows.

Its ridiculous...the magnitude of snobbery in CC is something that i have witnessed since i became a member in April, however, the verbatum thats being propelled at me such as discouraging me to apply when my guidance counselor told me exactly these words: (and she has 30 years experience) "You'll most likely get in."

Also, in terms of stating such ridiculous statements as "My friend, a Cornell freshman, had a 1570 and a 3.95/4.00 unweighted GPA. Others with lower stats didn't get in." is the most ignorant fact you can give me. Please, do not argue with a winning debate team captain (sorry about sounding arrogant, but i must defend myself justifiably.) I can also give you thousands of applicants with 1570 who got REJECTED, and those with 1350 or 1300 who got in. If you want to play that game, then i have a friend who got into cornell with a 1300, a 3.8 GPA and mediocre extrcurriculars. Hows that for statistics? I never claimed nor never will claim that Cornell "is easy to get into." I fervently believe the opposite. Im not applying because of the name or the prestige or the title, like most of the empty-headed, suburban, money-infested, and SAT compulsive students who roam the halls of CC. I truly believe Cornell is the perfect school for me especially the College of Human Ecology, a STATE school, and a school that not many people apply to. If i were an idiot, i would apply to arts and sciences, and i wouldnt get in, because the competition is too high. Human ecology is another story.

Instead of being a naive, misinformed, and hot-headed individual, you should get your facts straight and look at things more closely, and know what you are talking about, because everything i stated above, i can prove with facts, statistics, and quotes from admissions officers. Thank you very much :)

Brooklyn is applying to the in state part of Cornell which is MUCH easier to get into. Brooklyn you need to mention this on board on the first post because, yes, you have about a 0% chance of getting into CALS but a decent chance at the in state schools. And stop being so defensive, you look like a 15 yr old.

um, i say ur gonna be rejected, the average SAT for ENROLLED student at Human Ecology Cornell was 1355. You are WAY under that. GOOD LUCK buddy!!!

Good luck, but you may have a hard time getting in. Your scores are a little low, your GPA is great, and your ECs sound decent as well. Definitely apply, and tell us how it goes! Early decision will increase your chances a great deal, so you have a shot!

However, I dont think you should jump down the throats of everyone whos commenting and replying to your post because first of all, they took the time and effort to tell you their opinion. They could have just ignored your post and then you would get no help from anybody! You should appreciate everyones opinion and take EVERYTHING people tell you with a grain of salt. Of course don't just accept what people say as absolute truth, but you have to give them some credit for their opinions. After all, their opinion could be a similar opinion to what the adcoms think - and you never know! I just dont think you should start shouting at everyone for just stating what they think.

By posting here after all YOU are the one who ASKED for people's opinions. Ignore them if you will but don't just start getting angry at everyone for expressing their opinion which you asked for in the first place!
